TooMuchCoffee XenophobiaI was running MY ROAD this morning, still battling to break 30 minutes, iPod blaring away with my favourite running music. It is a collection of some old ballads and songs I know all the words to. This helps me concentrate on something other than the lactic acid building up in my thighs, the rasping noise in my throat and the constant beeping of my Garmin as my heart rate climbs. Two songs stuck in mind as I listened to them over and over and the images that have flashed across my TV and been circulated in a million emails came to mind.

I arrived home, quick shower and made a video compilation of the events of the last few weeks. The images are graphic and disturbing, the music is haunting and I would like to pay tribute to the photographers and journalists who spend time on the ground and not time sitting in pyjamas in front of their computers, these are the real journalists behind the real stories… We the bloggers, are the interpretors of these stories. We try and personalise them sometimes through humour and sometimes through adding a human side to a story or a tragedy that is unfolding. This is truly a tragedy unfolding on our doorstep that will affect our nation and our psyche for years to come. Don’t disregard it simply because it is not making headlines everyday.

The video file is large and I suggest you start it and press pause immediately to allow it to stream. Wait for the grey bar to fill below the video.
